Greg: Well, this has certainly been a busy few weeks for me. In the past few months, my life has changed dramatically...all for the better. After marrying Dharma I've been forced to make several changes in the way I do things. For instance... Dharma: OK, I don't know what he's fussing about. Greg: Honey, we agreed that I would go first. Dharma: You're right. Go on...finish. Greg: Thanks sweetheart. Just recently Dharma allowed me, no she encouraged me to quit my job to find my "bliss" as she put it. I ended up as a fry cook in a greasy spoon. Dharma: But, ya gotta admit...you were happy! Greg: Ok, ok...I was happy. You win that one. Dharma: And, Edward is much happier now that your Mom's a redhead. Greg: Hey, I thought we agreed not to mention that again! Dharma: Sheesh. Touchy! Well, this month hasn't exactly been a bed of roses for me, either. I lost Old Yeller, remember. Greg: Oh honey, I'm sorry. I'm being so insensitive, aren't I? Dharma: That's OK, honey. I know you're just a product of your environment. Greg: Thanks. Hey, wait a minute... Dharma: ::giggle:: Sorry, Clifford. Anyway, I lost my beloved Old Yeller. You don't know how much I miss him. Her. Him. It. Greg, you hated it, didn't you? Greg: Well, I wouldn't go that far, but it *was* a bit impractical. The gas alone was costing us a fortune. But, I've been thinking. Dharma: Oooh, I love it when you think!! Greg: (laughs) If you want, we could call around to some of the junkyards in the area to see if we can't find a replacement for that cracked engine block. Dharma: Awww, honey...that's so sweet of you. I love you so much! Greg: I love you more! Dharma: Shut up! Greg: No, you shut up! Dharma: Besides, I really like Big Red much more than Old Yeller!!! Greg: Big Red? Dharma: Yes! The cherry picker!!!
"Shakespeare Rocks!!"
Can you imagine William Shakespeare sitting in Michael Eisner's office and pitching the concept of Dharma & Greg? While Shakespeare is telling of the virtues of a story that deals with a love so true that it cannot be corrupted by jealousy or money or petty differences, Eisner just wants to know the projected demographics and whether or not Shakespeare is expecting creative control. In modern-day San Franciso, our modern little Capulet and Montique have beaten their parents to the punch. This variation on a classic theme would be sure to make old Willie just a little nervous, although I'm sure he'd be happy to see that the body count is much lower than in his original manuscript. In the world of women's fashion, it is said that a woman should never throw away a truly pretty dress because it will soon be in fashion again. In this day of cardboard cheeseburgers and unisex haircuts, it is refreshing, a classic come back to life. Dharma & Greg has simple, classic lines, stays close to your heart, and flares just a little at the bottom. Even though Willie would probably demand the occasional rewrite of the script, writers are an obnoxious lot, I believe that hed endorse our fairyland couple whose love seems to only grow with each new obstacle which lies in their pat
Welcome to Nunzio & Stinky's section! If you have a dog or dogs, then they might want to read this as well. Hey don't laugh. Dogs are pretty smart if you didn't already know. In upcoming newsletters, this section will be devoted to us (dogs) and some of the things that we think are important. But for now, since this is the first time we have done something like this we thought that it would be nice to just introduce ourselves. First of all, I'm Nunzio and my friend and pal, Stinky, is helping me with this section of this lovely newsletter. As any devoted D&G watcher knows, we are Dharma's lovable dogs. Well actually Stinky is and I'm Stinky's dog but I like to think that the human is my owner too. Watch for us on the show. We are the lovable ones that don't really have a speaking part. Hey that reminds me I have to speak to my agent about that. Well anyway I hope you enjoy this newsletter that these lovely humans (and dogs) have put together.
Nunzio & Stinky (Bark!)
Maybe it's because it's one of the few new shows this season that actually became popular and stayed on the air. I think it's because you never know what will happen next - from Dharma and Greg getting married after their first date to the disastrous meeting of the parents. Viewers never know what will happen. Will Dharma buy a bus? Or, will Greg quit his job as an attorney to flip burgers? Maybe it's Jenna Elfman's amazing energy and outgoing sense of comedy. Or Thomas Gibson's sidekick comedy with his reactions to some of Jenna's outrageous ideas. Maybe it's the dialogue that keeps audiences coming back. (Dharma: Guess what Im doing? Larry: Acid) Since the show's premiere last year, viewers have found some hidden treasures on the show, too. For example, each week a ceramic football is hidden around the Montgomery's apartment or producer Chuck Lorre's vanity cards at the end of the show. (This week's vanity card: All work and no play makes Chuck a very dull and boring boy. - Repeated many times.) Another highlight is D&G's outstanding supporting cast. Susan Sullivan and Mitchell Ryan are hilariously upper class as Greg's parents Kitty and Edward. Mimi Kennedy and Alan Rachins are great as Dharma's hippie parents, Abby and Larry. Dharma's neighbor and friend Jane is portrayed by Shae D'lyn and Greg's coworker, Pete is Joel Murray. Next up-Dharma and Greg's first Valentine's Day together.

In this edition of Greg's Gripes, were going to take a look at one of Thomas Gibson's lesser known works "Tales of the City". Tales of the City was a mini-series made for PBS in the early 90s and is probably best remembered for the uproar it raised in the more conservative portions of the nation. It was based on, and remained faithful to, Armistead Maupin's novel of the same name. It was a story of the tenants of a small apartment complex in San Francisco, run by a woman named Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis) who was quite the free spirit. In fact, by comparison she and the other tenants put Dharma and company to shame! Most of the controversy revolved around the free use of nudity and graphic discussions of sex, drugs and homosexuality in that decade we hazily remember as the 1970s. In fact, the uproar was so great that PBS offered local affiliates a "clean" version to air in place of the standard broadcast version of the program. In the mini-series, Thomas played a character named Beauchamp (pronounced Beechum) Day, a slightly promiscuous protagonist. In fact, looking back at the film recently it was very hard to imagine him playing a character quite as ruthless as Beauchamp. The 70s hairstyle and clothing didn't help matters, either frankly. Though not for the faint of heart, this film is very entertaining and well worth a look. But, don't say you haven't been warned! "Tales of the City" is now available on home video from PolyGram on 3 cassettes. The film is unrated.
